Dr. Greg Ammons, pastor of First Baptist Church of Garland, has written a book with a grabber title - "Now My Eye Sees You: What My Doctorate Didn’t Teach Me About God, My Son Did." It's about Dr. Ammons becoming, at age 43, a father, after he and wife Lisa had tried for 18 years to have a child. The publisher, Hannibal Books, is pushing it as a Father's Day gift. The paperback is selling for $14.95 at Christian and secular bookstores, and from online booksellers. |

How often and how much coverage does DMN give books? The comics run every day but books are what, once a week at best? Or if they're lucky they get mentioned in other sections like Business.

Although most of our reviews do run in the Sunday section, you'll also find breaking news stories about books, as well as author profiles as often as I can assign them, in the daily GuideLive section.
The blog helps supplement that coverage.
If there's a particular kind of book story you're looking for, let us know. I think that if readers reacted as passionately to book reviews as they do about comics, the newspaper would respond quickly.
Of course, it's the job of those of us who write and edit the book reviews to stoke those kinds of passions. And let's also be clear -- I don't want to replace "Pearls Before Swine." ("Family Circus" is another matter.)
But I've seen how editors respond when readers speak out. So I encourage everyone to do so.

My husband alerted me to this blog. Mind if I commend you and the DMN for orchestrating it? I'm thankful there's a place where Dallasites can chat about their love of books. As an author, this heartens me.
I'll be linking to this blog today.
