Book TV has made Joyce Carol Oates' keynote speech available online. Unless you are a fan of famous people reading lists of important books aloud, I would suggest skipping directly to the second half, where she talks about her own writing. And that part is quite interesting. |

I know this comment is coming rather late to Mike's recommendation regarding skipping to the last part of Joyce Carol Oates' speech. In the interests of full disclosure, I am the director of the Mayborn Institute and was present at the keynote speech. The second part of her speech was more interesting because she talked about her work and her journey as a writer. However, when I listened to the speech again on BookTV, I was amazed at how right on target she was regarding the themes of our annual conference. A better overview of nonfiction writers would be hard to come by. Thanks Ms. Oates!
