African American Read-In at the Majestic

The ninth annual African American Read-In takes place form 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm Street.

Ashley Bryan will be among the participants. His "Let It Shine" recently won the Coretta Scott King Award for illustration.

The read-in site also has links to several other reading-related events for February.

A critical mass in Dallas

Feb. 12 is a ways off, but you'll want to start preparing now for an evening of books conversation at Barnes & Noble, 7700 W. Northwest Highway.

That's when The Dallas Morning News and the National Book Critics Circle are teaming up to discuss the best books of the season. Come on by to hear:

Award-winning author Ben Fountain
Acclaimed poet Isabel Nathaniel
NPR commentator Tom Dodge
Scholar Walton Muyumba.

Yours truly will moderate, but that should not dissuade you.

We'll be taking questions live at the scene, but you can join the conversation early by suggesting your own favorite recent releases right now.
