The estate of J.R.R. Tolkien is suing New Line Cinema over the "Lord of the Rings" movies, saying it was underpaid. The plaintiffs say the films made $6 billion. Wow. That's enough to buy every Hobbit in the shire a couple of rings, with enough left over for a foot waxing.
The plaintiffs seek more than $150 million in compensatory damages, unspecified punitive damages and a court order giving the Tolkien estate the right to terminate any rights New Line may have to make films based on other works by the author, including “The Hobbit.” |
