Over on NewWest.net, editor Jenny Shank has a nice look at the Western classic "True Grit." (But Jenny, despite what you say in your Texas Pages-baiting intro to your "Western Book Roundup," nobody, not even this relocated Coloradoan, would ever, ever think of Denver as "the Big D." I don't care how many Texans have moved there. Anyone who says otherwise is obviously a mile high, or worse.) |

So the Texas baiting worked! I got a Texan all riled up. Okay, okay, so "the Big D" is taken. But someone has to help me come up with a respectable "D"-themed name for Denver, because my husband, who grew up in New York, calls it "Cute Little Denver" and I can't abide that.
How about Mighty D? Or The Medium D? D Enough?

Those of us in the 463-Foot-High city appreciate the capitulation.
Perhaps you need to find out what Frank Loesser is up to these days. I can hear him adapting his song for you ...
"Oh you're from Mid-D/
I surmise/
By your Broncos snowcap and/
raccoon-like ski-goggle eyes!
"Oh you're from Mid-D/
Yes, you are!
And that's spelled
Big D-E-N-V-E and R!

How about High-D? Pronounced, of course, "heidy!"
