"Absolutely no religious rites of any kind, relating to any religious faith, should be associated with my funeral," he wrote. He'll be buried in a private funeral this weekend in Sri Lanka.
Not surprising from a man who once denigrated religion as "a necessary evil in the childhood of our particular species."
Let his secular acolytes praise him, then. Here is a remark (also reported by the AP) from a NASA scientist who talks about the author's influence on real-life space pioneers:
