So we drove under the Sound of Music mural, past the monster Star Wars and Simpsons murals and parked. As we walked down a red carpet toward the action, faux photographers and reporters shouted questions at us in the manner of The Ticket's 1920s Reporter Guy. We then mingled on a set designed for what looked like a '30s period film, complete with brick tenement buildings and a fake diner and tavern. Not sure what it had to do with publishing, but it was very cool. On the lot were were various celebs with books to push, including Marilu Henner, Kevin Nealon and Ron "The Hedgehog" Jeremy, who held forth with another critic on the virtues of Marley & Me. (Must love dogs). John Landis stood with a drink in his hand and chatted gregariously. Fun was had by all. If only Norma Desmond were there. |
